El recién nacido, es aquel niño menor de veintiocho días de vida siendo estos los
que representan un alto riesgo de muerte. Es por ello que es de vital importancia
brindarle una alimentación y una atención adecuada durante todo este periodo, con
el único objetivo de aumentar sus probabilidades de supervivencia y construir las
bases de una vida saludable del niño.
La etapa neonatal es una de las etapas que requiere de una mayor atención por parte
del personal de salud por considerarse el de altas tasas de morbilidad de la niñez y
por su condición de cambio entre la vida intrauterina y extrauterina. Las madres
tienen que garantizar el cuidado adecuado de los neonatos. En las madres radica el
compromiso de que los recién nacidos reciban el cuidado correcto. Para garantizar
el cuidado correcto las madres deben tener las condiciones psicológicas y físicas,
para poder tener la actitud madura y adecuada, ya que con la llegada del niño
asumirán la responsabilidad de ser madres.
